Life of a Middle Scholer

Manado International School is a leading Christian institution lead by Sir. Billy Kumolontang, the director of the school. It has the International Standard which the students must speak in English. In Manado, Manado International School or known as MIS is the first-ever school who used English as the first language instead of the language of Indonesia. It is hardly understandable at the first time but along the time the students eventually adapt well because of the inquisitive of the students can lead them to speak English fluently.

Manado International School has the facilities such as; sport facilities, cafeteria, air-conditioned classroom, auditorium, etc. It contains 3 buildings; annex building, elementary-section building, and the high school-section building. Every year there is always an event to let the students take a "break" from all the subjects, such as; camping, field trip, study tour, DBL, etc.

Manado International School accommodate from Kindergarten to High School section, so it's pretty much can contains 700 students. Every year MIS always had the graduating students and the newcomers, which is the newcomers must went through the PEC (Preparatory English Class) to prepare their English so they could adapt with the other students that has speak English well.

About the event such as camping, usually for the elementary they had their camp in the school backyard since the school is quite big. For the Middle School usually they combined it with the High School but since the year of 2012 they separated both Middle School and High School because the camp site can't really accommodate the whole Middle School and High School. There is also an event such as Field Trip. Approximately, every year the school let the students to have their field trip outside or inside the country. Those who will not join the field trip will have their own field trip which is the one-day camping trip.

In the year of 2008 to 2013, MIS severely receive a foreigner student, but the school itself contains student from Australia, Sweden, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Singapore, Japan, Germany, Papua New Guinea, Korea and Indonesia.
The graduating class, 6;9;12, receive a graduating diploma from MIS.

A Middle School life of a student is the step to be a real teenager. My friend and I went to MIS to study better English, we’ve been there since 7th Grade and now as 2 years passed we were seated at the “senior class” or the “graduating class”.

Life of a 7th grader, is like a person tied into a really tight rope that the person even can’t breathe, because as your typical seventh grader, they will fervently follow all the rules and regulations  because they are afraid of the consequences that will befall upon them. As MIS follows the Abeka curriculum, it’s a little bit different with the National School that follows the Indonesian curriculum. As my friend and I observe the Indonesian curriculum was more focused to the UAN lessons or the National Examination. UAN is a National test in which the graduating class has to follow (for Indonesian only) so they can get the certificate of being an elementary students; middle school students; and a high school students. In Indonesia we will need the certificate to continue our study to college, but if you will be studying abroad then it will be completely useless for you as the International standards don’t require you to have it.

The 7th grader, particularly the A class, which is the class that need more attention on their English must follow the PEC program which has been specialized for the students who need more help on their English. 7th grade sport was separated from the 8th grade and the 9th grade, not really separated but has been divided into their own schedule as the sports hall can’t contains all of the Middle school students all in one go.

They also had their regular schedules which are to follow the extracullicular, elective, and arts lessons. This interlude subjects, is to prevent the students from getting bored for studying in the school for 8 hours. And it also helps the student to unfold their hobby more to make it useful for them in the future.

For the 8th grader, they practically must went through the S.A selection which is they themselves has to promote themselves to be the S.A of the middle school, the 9th grader can’t follow because of the distraction of the UAN. The 8th grader can also be called as the second hand command in middle school as they are the second senior of middle school, which they also can lead the younger students to learn for the better.

As the 7th grader become the 8th grader, at least they become a bit more matured than before, because they have to learn an independent attitude where they will be taught for not to be dependent of others. But because they become more independent than before they will start to bend the “rules” a little bit because they are not the so-called “7th grades” anymore that will always follow the rules with terrified attitude of having the consequences. Why I know that? Because I experienced it after all. I'm a badgirl yeah, kidding :p.

Well, 9th graders, it’s a hell loop for the graduating students, for they will follow the enhancement, which is pretty much tiring but useful. 9 graders will be focused more of the UAN lessons as they will follow the UAN. For those who will not join the UAN or the National Exam, they will follow the oh-so-called “pullout” class. The pullout class will still having the original class, as they didn’t follow the UAN, of course. The 9th graders also must have to come on Sunday to follow the enhancements, as Saturday they can’t because MIS is a Sabbath school. After all the hard work, the 9th graders who passed the National Exam still must come to school to follow the School Exam and to wait for the graduating announcement, after that the 9th graders will have their own freedom. YEY!.

Anyway, this is some photo of MIS or known as Manado International School.
